In 2005, KJ our CEO (Meet the Leadership Team ) was a sixteen year old boy from Kuwait who came to Canada on his own to study math at the University of Waterloo. KJ was just barely a teenager but had already lived through two Gulf Wars. The first was when he was three, when he and his family were among the 170,000 people evacuated from Kuwait by the Indian Army. KJ studied hard at the University of Waterloo and he fell hard. Not for a girl, or a particularly stunning mathematical equation, but for our country. He fell in love with 🇨🇦 Canada and the people here.
He spent years as a Venture Capitalist for tech start-ups but was always passionate about restaurants. He decided to leave finance and purchase four restaurants. He quickly learned about an overlooked, underserved pain point felt by restaurateurs when one fateful weekend a walk-in fridge broke down and they could not find anyone to repair it. He lost $40K worth of food that weekend……
(Editors update: He did eventually fall in love with a Canadian girl and they had their first child in early 2023!)
